Launching A Mini Cooper (For Fun & Profit)

As previously mentioned on a recent post, I've always encountered very entertaining advertising when I browse. Here's another one created by Orange Barrel Media for Mini Cooper. Now, I would really want one of these cars despite my lack of enthusiasm for mechanical transportation. Truth to tell, I do not care for driving around a gas-guzzler that pollutes the atmosphere, creates traffic in the local highway but then convenience is always a big factor when one wants to arrive to their destination of choice in a timely and safe (Well sort of...) manner. Frankly, I'd wait for a more fuel efficient and environmentally safe car but my life is a short one besides, I'm moving off topic, This Ad rocks!

Ooops! Sorry For Spilling Paint On Your Car....

I've always thought that advertising would have been a very interesting field to work in. I've met a few people that have dabbled in the advertising industry or would at least have loved to work there. It is indeed a very competitive industry, though. Only the most creative and silver-tongued can survive the battle of cost versus delivering the message to a target market versus creativity versus implementation to a great idea and put it all in various types of media like the picture on the inset.

When I think about the best advertising I've seen so far, it was the old Globe Handyphone commercial. I cant seem to remember the official title of that less-than-30 second ad but it was about a couple sending SMS messages between each other setting up for a date. The reason why they were sending SMS to each other via their huge mobile phones (back then they were considered small) was apparently they were bereft of the gift of speech. Dude, that really stoked me up and it inspired to aspire to be a better writer (despite years of hiatus and off/on inspiration). I remember when I learned that the mother of my daughter was pregnant, I actually sent out an application to one of the popular agencies to become a copywriter but they politely declined my advances. I thought back then maybe it wasn't for me until I saw this.

Maybe I should give it another shot? Perhaps or perhaps not. Now, I am not in the position to take a risk. I still have a daughter to support and another family to help rise from debt and poverty. When I think about it, I am sometimes glad Erin isn't with me. She doesn't have to go through what the rest of the world goes through but I do miss her and wish I could be there but alas, a choice was made on her behalf. Oh well, that's the way the paint spills, just like the Ad; Subtle, creative, and leaves an impression that you either have to learn or it will just keep reminding you.

I seriously need to try again and sleep, I've been awake for a good 22 hours already and I'm risking a good night's sleep just to write this.

Thanks for reading and enjoy!

Workstation Confessionals

I came to work one night, tired as the dead itching for a cigarette

You passed me by shining like a soft light with that oh so beautiful smile

It made me ache for human touch, a warmth not felt for years in this tired old soul

It made me feel that warm glow that has lived in ice for so long

I kept watch over it and tried to fan it, first it was too strong and I blew it away

You smiled again, i tried to keep it away from the ice surrounding my soul

It died down eventually

I think I need you to keep that warm glow, I am happier with you when you are there to keep me warm

I still know not your name, I try not to date inside the office but it lessens the chance of seeing someone like you

I am confused on how to approach this, by god this is so difficult, a choice between principle & selfish reasons

It is never simple, we are always in danger and risk is life and life risks us.

Device warns you if you're boring or irritating

A DEVICE that can pick up on people's emotions is being developed to help people with autism relate to those around them. It will alert its autistic user if the person they are talking to starts showing signs of getting bored or annoyed. One of the problems facing people with autism is an inability to pick up on social cues. Failure to notice that....

Read it yet? Well, if such a thing does become a thing of existence in the global social structure of autism, I do not see it being a problem established on the alleged Normal people. All of us are still autistic in one way or another. Me for example can turn off emotion by will, I simply choose to feel or at least act normal. Call me a Doppleganger of sorts, My evil twin is playing normal my true self is more of a variance form. It's too liquid and volatile to comprehend when I think about it. I myself am not the only practitioner of such, if you have heard of the cliche "We all wear masks, when will you remove yours?" you know what my point is.

It would be nice to find people who will accept your true form, perhaps it could even make the world a better place but no one, not even me, has the guts to do it.

3rd Gen Nano, Just slightly bigger than your brain!

Rumor has it that the 3rd Generation Nano will be way better than it's predecessors (Think small!). Someone from one of the rumor mill started posting the picture on the left.

If the said evidence is true, it's still a great portable music player and the smaller it is means it is a better form factor for cool people on the go.

There has been futher rumors of a Nano Video version and full screen iPod sans the clickwheel but the whole front is covered by screen. If such a thing is true rejoice all ye Apple fan boys!

No Battlestar Galactica For Kevin Smith

A couple days ago Kevin Smith announced that he would be directing an upcoming episode of Battlestar Galactica, but alas it doesn’t seem like it will come to be. Galactica showrunner Ronald D Moore told fans at the official SciFi Channel Web site that a “scheduling conflict” has come up and that Smith is no longer attached to direct an episode."

Which is of course too bad. It looks like it is just going to be Heroes only and Galactica wont be included on his list of works anymore. I've always liked Smith's various creative story lines. Dogma was the best of them despite the controversy.

Oh well, I guess you cant have everything.

Kevin Smith To Direct Battlestar Galactica & Write/Direct Heroes Episode

The Clerks director has signed on to direct an episode of Battlestar Galactica...Smith also revealed that he will not only direct an episode of the Heroes spin-off show Heroes Origins, but he has also been given full creative control to write the episode and create the character.

This is of course all awesome. I have not seen Kevin Smith direct something along the lines of this kind of genre. Then again, I dont really see much of Kevin's work.

Things You Shouldn't Be Saying When Assisting In Surgery

This piece of advice is dedicated to one of the few friends I know in the field of medicine, Peter Mark who just passed the local Nursing exams. So Mark, How does it feel to be a male nurse eh? Ha ha ha ha

Anyway, you deserve it. When was the last time we really saw you and don't include those times where you just eat and drink at a party (That ain't fair!)?!?!

You owe us a big one before you flutter off to the other side of the world. Next step would be the NCLEX exams. So you study hard and party harder!!!! Woot!!

Here's my 39-part piece of advice....

1. That's cool. Now can you make his
leg
twitch by pressing that one?!

2. Wait a minute, if this is his
spleen,
then what's that?

3. This patient has already had some
kids, am I correct?

4. Oh no! Where's my Rolex?!?!

5. Ya know, there's big money in
kidneys... and this guy's got two of 'em...

6. Well folks, this will be an
experiment for all of us.

7. No, no, no, no, NO!! Dammit..... Oh
well....

8. There go the lights again!

9. Could you stop that thing from
beating; it's throwing off my
concentration.

10. Sterile schmerile. The floor's
clean, right?

11. Rover! Come back with that. Bad
dog!

12. Oops! Hey, has anyone ever survived
from 500 ml of this stuff before?

13. OK, now take a picture from this
angle. This is truly a freak of nature.

14. FIRE! FIRE! Everyone get out!

15. What's this doing here?

16. What do you mean "You want a
divorce?!?"

17. I hate it when they're missing
stuff
in here.

18. Oh no! Page 47 of the manual is
missing!

19. I wish I hadn't forgotten my
glasses...

20. Everybody stand back! I lost my
contact lens!

21. Better save that. We'll need it for
the autopsy.

22. Hand me that... uh... that uh...
that thingy there.

23. Accept this sacrifice, O Great Lord
of Darkness.

24. What do you mean he wasn't in for a
sex change...?

25. Someone call the janitor - we're
going to need a mop.

26. Holy cow! What's that?

27. I was at a wine tasting when they
called me in for surgery.

28. Don't worry. I think it is sharp
enough.

29. Nurse, did this patient sign the
organ donation card?

30. Anyone see where I left that
scalpel?

31. "Pass the scalpel" ..."Sure! Here
you go, Dr. Kevorkian!"

32. So you think its this one? I think
its that one, lets toss a coin

33. Coffee break time

34. Can you hear me now?

35. Quick, hide the stash!

36. I know this face, that is the cop
that pulled me over last week

37. Ya, think we should have waited for
the surgeon?

38. Don't worry, she can't hear you!

39. I've done this a million times,
lets see if I can do it with my eyes
closed....ooops, guess not!

Enjoy and Congratulations!

People Who Fidget Are Less Likely To Be Obese

Scientists working in Germany and the US say they have found a "fidget" molecule and if you have it in your genes you are less likely to be fat. Fidgeters of the world say, "well, duh, all that moving around is good exercise".

Well, DUH indeed. I do tend to fidget sometimes when I'm bored. In reading the article from the BBC it seems people who fidget have less chances of being obese. Genome mapping still has a far way to go and we are discovering more intimate details of what builds up the human body.

Nevertheless, diet and exercise is still the best approach to a great bod!

I Finally Have A Chance At Showbiz!

It was a typical day at work.

Cases to resolve, shouting matches to be heard and the usual quips between team mates and bosses.

The D then just turned off those big ass speakers of his, and candidly announced on who wants to show up for a shoot as his friend is looking for some extras for a short commercial for Eastwood(ugh! but it's a start).

Everyone started chatting up and at this stage you can seperate those who have guts with the ones with the huge cojones (or really huge ego's!). I'm in for the latter so I signed up.

Take note, two of my team mates have been through this cycle before, I believe Andi did it professionally for a while. Nap did it just for the money in Darna on GMA. I know what you are thinking right now, do we get paid or do we get laid?

Neither.

They did pay us in food and 2 free movie passes with certain exclusions. (Bah! It doesn't matter, The nationwide television audience gets to see moi in the boobtube!)

When the phones clocked 8AM, we all raced down to the ground floor off the building and met with the D's friend, whose a looker but not my type.

We were all anticipating what would happen next and everyone was in a good mood and elated at the fact that the commercial will be shown in local cable channel ETC.

I started chatting up the group asking where the hell my personal PA is and who will be doing my makeup? (At this point, I wish I wore a better shirt) Everyone laughed of course.

We took a walk up to Eastwood Cinema 1 and they were already starting the shoot with a preview of Surf's Up (boring movie, really!). I was expecting a lot of pretty people scampering about doing some tweaking but no, it was just a bunch of people sitting around with the Director huddling with his production crew on how to get the best effect for the commercial. There were 3 models in the middle aisle of the 3 row from the bottom, All pretty and dolled up but again, not my type. I am not a big fan of make up. I detest it in fact, but of course, always patient when they insist.

Anyway, we were instructed to sit on some of the top rows off-camera and the Director provided some instructions on how we should react once the camera pans over to us. "Just laugh as if you are actually enjoying yourself." says the Director. We were all provided some popcorn on top with gobs of tissue at the bottom and some empty plastic cups for sodas. (How impressive is that?)

The Director started hollering "Action!" and in a few secs he signaled us to laugh which we did. It was awkward at first but since the awkward ambiance was laughable I started feeling giddy and really did laugh. Alan who was just on front row, started throwing out his popcorn on the back row (me!) and I started cursing him like a marine. (I felt insulted about the popcorn which typically had no flavor at all, If it had some real butter on it I would not mind as I would catch them by my mouth! he he he)

That took about 3 or 4 takes. It didn't seem funnier after the first two but hey, it still a shoot and it ain't everyday you get the chance to be shown on TV.

We were asked to move around and the D, Nap and I ended up in the left side of the theater just a 5 or 6 rows from the bottom. I had a better view of the commercial models and I am still unimpressed. Then a couple came in and it was like someone puked one of those girly model magazine's on them. According to Nap she looks like Katrina Halili, I really could not see because it was too dark, even with my glasses on.

During this particular scene, The Director asked us to do the same as previous but when Nap heard the director say action, he started laughing before the signal, I started laughing also!

It was another 2-3 takes and I was starting to grow bored. When it was all over we were asked to go to Something Fishy. It was the usual bad breakfast buffet. I don't know why people are that impressed with their food. It sucks, I was better off eating at home but I can't complain as it was free.

We were all chatting about the events that transpired hours ago. I checked my watch and it was 11AM. Sigh, I had to scramble for home.

Overall, it was something to be proud of. I sure hope our scenes don't get cut out of the commercial. I'll wait for the soft copy and probably try out the video blogging feature in blogger and do an upload.

Till next time.

Enjoy!

I Miss Highschool!

When I saw this picture, I suddenly miss high school. No, I don't miss the promiscuity of high school (Well, fine maybe a little) but I do regret not knowing enough people during those 4 years.

I remember almost nothing from my High school. Too much partying and those years were all a haze to me.

I do regret not keeping in contact, then again I have never had a friend I knew more than 13 years keep in close contact with me consistently.

Damn, wish I could relive those memories and do better with whatever passes of as friends and acquaintances I have right now. Then again I am not really a big fan of keeping long-term relationships with friends, I usually move on too quickly.

In the lighter side of this post, Whatever those two are doing, they are hot!!!

W000t! :)

Bob Barker takes final bow on "The Price Is Right"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Giving away one more car to an ecstatic contestant, TV host Bob Barker taped his last round of "The Price Is Right" on Wednesday, ending 35 years as host of America's longest-running game show and five decades on network television. "I thank you for inviting me into your homes for more than 50 years," Barker said.

As soon as this story was posted, Rumors have been circulating among various forums that several candidates were being considered for the post. The few that I remember, was Rosie O' Donnel, George Hamilton, John O'Hurley.

It seems that the current winner would be Drew Carrey. Well, A little youth would never hurt the show. He has the very obscure charisma which would be a welcome addition to the show.

I loved the price is right as a kid. It was fun to guess the prices based on what you don't know about the economics of the other side of the world.

Sigh Those were simpler times, I truly miss it yet barely remember...

Favorable Polls, here I come!

Not that I need the re-assurance but a little affirmation would not hurt wouldn't it?

An Unlucky Weekend

It seems someone made some sort of voodoo ritual for me this weekend. I didn't go to work the last 2 days of the week. My cold eventually has made a nice home which caused my white blood cells to react and create a bad fever which rendered me useless.

FRIDAY NIGHT:

Then while taking a good nights sleep on Friday, I accidentally knocked off my Inspiron and broke the AC adapter connector. I thought I could probably solder it back when the crack of dawn came so I went to sleep. When the sun rose up the whole rubber covering may have brittled up and completely separated itself from the cord.

Damn!

It didn't matter though, It's pay day and I guess I can cough up a few thou to buy a new one locally.

SATURDAY MORNING:

My mom woke me up asking to print out a document my dad made from the Inspiron. I knew I had a power problem and I turned on the unit and quickly turned up the knob on all power saving features. I had to copy all the documents, videos, and other stuff to the mangy old desktop that I had. I was able to get most of it but missed a few. Hopefully when I get that new AC adapter for the Inspiron I can get everything up and organized.

SATURDAY EARLY AFTERNOON:

My office mate sent me an SMS message, I thought it was just the usual complaints of not getting what they actuall deserved. Her group has not been given a chance to be heard out by management on the way they get their performance appraisal increase. Then I checked the ATM machine and I gasped...

I got the lowest possible pay in my paygrade and it sucks.

I was flabbergasted by the whole thing. My plans on that AC adapter went to the bottom of the priority barrel. Then I thought of the monthly electric bill which ate 3/4ths of my pay check. i also had to think about my daughter's 2 week requirement of milk & diapers. Eventually, I had to decide to dip into my nest egg to make sure everything was covered.

I had to make sure that the electric bill got paid and then Erin. Everything else seems so minor.

I checked the other account where I kept my small stash and I was a bit surprised that I have a lot I could spend on.

Of course, my priority should still be those who rely heavily on me.

I quickly tried to check how much an AC adapter costs and it would damage my wallet around less than Php2500 depending where I buy it. I hope I get the best deal from TipidPC.com.

I tried to figure out how I can spread my meager paycheck to all my required expenses and bills to be paid. I finally figured out a deal but during that time most of the ATM's were down and the other had a reaaaalllly long line. I figured what the heck. I'll try the line and see how it goes.

SATURDAY LATE AFTERNOON:
I planned on seeing my daughter and bring my bi-weekly obligation with the go ahead from her mom. She said "Sure. I ain't at home but you can still go." So I did, when I rang the doorbell, Joan went out and told me that my daughter isn't there. Then it hit me, it seems the fates have decided to extend the pain (which I have not gotten used to yet) of not seeing my daughter.

I went home dejected as usual and instead of wallowing in the usual emotional pain, I opted to do something productive. I worked on the computers back at home. It took me quite a while to figure stuff out as it has been a while since I last opened up these boxes for a loooong time. I've decided when the purse strings are not so tight, I had better borrow or buy a USB-IDE adapter. I knew it would make everything easier when doing common backups without cracking open my boxes.

Well, It has been an unlucky weekend. I've given giving optimism for the week. As the Magic 8-ball says, "Try again, next time"
